A shabby conservatory gets the heave-ho in favour of a 21st century light filled garden room.
Rather than simply replace their outdated conservatory with something similar, Michael and Karen approached local Sussex architect Duncan Thomas from Domain to design a garden room that offered them a space flooded with natural light and a glorious view of the garden but without the drawbacks of a traditional conservatory. Duncan designed a state of the art extension using a steel frame and round pole design, which allowed for the spectacular wraparound corner window.
Special details include the windows of the extension being designed to match in with the existing. Ark builders installed windows with powder-coated aluminium on the outside for optimum performance but natural wood on the inside, which gives the design its warm Scandinavian feel. The pitch of the roof is in keeping with the existing main house and the tiles were sourced to match.
Inside, a light birch wood block floor continues the light Scandinavian mood. Karen and Michael have furnished the room beautifully with a frosted glass dining table and grey leather chairs. Towards the back, a large grey felted wool sofa and modern white glass occasional tables complete this very modern family living space.
