Homeowners Alan and Paula improved their family home 10 fold when they opted for an unusual rear extension instead of selling up and disrupting family life with a house move no one wanted.
Desperate for more space, Alan and Paula employed Ark to extend the ground floor and convert the garage to accommodate their changing family needs. With three teenagers, one living room and a small family kitchen competition was increasing for relaxation and entertainment space as the family found themselves out growing the home they all loved.
An open plan kitchen-diner with a second living room was top of Paula’s wish list, whilst Alan craved a separate study and hobby room to relax in the evenings away from relentless teenage movies and computer games the kids enjoy. The property is located on an unusual corner plot, which led to the modern angular designed extension. Always up for a challenge and interested in new approaches the Ark team thoroughly enjoyed working on this unusual extension. The results speak for themselves, the extension and seamless decking make a stunning imprint on the garden and a talking point at family BBQs.
Next the team moved indoors fitting the powder coat Aluminum bi-fold doors, matching large-scale window and two velux windows to throw additional light into the living room. To keep the family toastie under floor heating was fitted before the fired earth floor tiles went down throughout the ground floor. The bespoke oak dining table was designed by Ark joiners to make clever use of the space and echo the angular dimensions of the extension. Paula was thrilled to have several dining area options for family dinners.
Ark carpenters fitted the kitchen and the aqua splash back, the pigment was specially created based on a colour Paula found. The old garage was converted into Alan’s study. The custom built shelving designer by Ark joiners was built from reclaimed doors to store Alan’s impressive vinyl collection.
After the extension was finished and the rooms furnished Alan told us ‘the family dynamics have improved heaps, we’re no longer on top of each other in the evenings, everyone has their own space to enjoy’
